I did not have time to finish this book. I like the team of folks, esp the totally despicable Psychologist, but I was disappointed that I had seen the murderer way sooner than they did -- though not for the reason he murdered. ( )

Die Bewohner von Torsby stehen unter Schock: Das Ehepaar Carlsten und ihre zwei Söhne wurden ermordet. Aus nächster Nähe erschossen, im eigenen Haus. Kommissar Torkel Höglund und seine Kollegen von der Reichsmordkommission finden bald heraus, dass es eine Zeugin gegeben haben muss: Nicole, die zehnjährige Nichte der Carlstens. Ihre Fußabdrücke führen in den nahe gelegenen Wald. Und ihre Überlebenschancen schwinden stündlich.

Den sonst so ruppigen Kriminalpsychologen Sebastian Bergman berüht der Fall, Nicole erinnert ihn an seine eigene Tochter. Die jetzt im gleichen Alter wäre. Die er nicht retten konnte. Bergman setzt alles daran, um das Mädchen zu finden. Doch Nicole wechselt ihre Verstecke planvoll, getrieben von Todesangst. Denn jemand will um jeden Preis verhindern, dass Nicole erzählt, was sie gesehen hat.
