At the end of her clerkship, Robin Lockwood has been offered her dream job working with Regina Barrister . Alex Mason is known for his legal expertise and his abrasive personality. When a victim is found on the side of the road with torture marks that match two previous murdered women, the police catch a break. When the victim takes the police to a remote cabin, they find evidence to convict Alex Mason who claims he is innocent. Lockwood and Barrister begin the defense, but Lockwood begins to have doubts about her boss. As stories unravel, Alex finds himself facing conviction, but who did the murders and why?

I haven’t read much written by Phillip Margolin, but I have enjoyed everything I’ve read up to this point. I did not realize this book was the first one in a new series so that is kind of exciting. Overall I think the story is well written. Set up is done nicely and I did not guess the ending until it was very close.

I generally liked the book, the themes and the storyline, but twisty ending didn't seem believable. Full marks yo the narrator for making the prose come alive. ( )
