The New Annotated H.P. Lovecraft by H.P. Lovecraft
A nice collection of Lovecraft's stories, but I found the annotations a bit scattershot. Some were attempts to map Lovecraft's fictional places to real world places, some were about how the stories tie together, and some even seemed to be written as though the fictional events were real. All in all I liked the book, but found the annotations didn't add much to my experience.

For the Sake of the Game: Stories Inspired by the… by Laurie R. King
I used to read some Doyle almost every year, and still pick up this kind of fan fiction when I can find it.

A Study in Sherlock: Stories Inspired by the Holmes… by Laurie R. King
Some pretty interesting stories that are all connected in various ways to Holmes.. Like any book of short stories, some are better than others, though overall I think this is worth reading if you enjoy creative spins on the topic. While reading these it dawned on me that I hadn't read many of the Sherlock stories, so that is where I'm headed next. As Holmes would say, "Elementary!"
