Ronald Wallace is the author of eleven books of poetry and short fiction. He is the Felix Pollak Professor of Poetry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and serves as general editor for the University of Wisconsin Press's poetry series. Wallace writes about the issues of aging and illness. As a person battling RA, I completely identify with his work. This is one of the best books of poetry that I have ever read.

Aging, loss, pain, dentists, and barbers are just a few of the topics covered in this collection of poems by Ronald Wallace. Even the former planet Pluto makes an appearance! Wallace’s poems are heartbreaking, funny, and so true. In Out Walking, we watch as a father and daughter take a walk down memory lane – literally. The poem describes the daughter trying to help her father remember the past as well as his daughter. In Caution, Wallace steps on cracks, runs with scissors, doesn’t look before he leaps, and says “Stand back! I’m taking my chances.” One of the takeaways from this collection of poems is to embrace life’s experiences – all of them – and take some chances along the way.… (more)
